Leadership coaching - Retail & Hospitality

Leadership coaching for retail & hospitality

Leadership coaching for store, venue and area managers.

Retail & Hospitality

How leaders are really made in retail & hospitality

In retail and hospitality, your best people get promoted fast, often into running a store or venue in their twenties, leading a team of casuals through peak trade with customers in front of them the whole time. It is leadership in real time, under pressure, with high turnover and thin margins, and almost no one gets trained for it before they are thrown in.

Growth Korner coaches the people who make that move, in person in Adelaide or online wherever you are. Stefan Bainder pairs senior in-house experience with certified coaching, so the support fits the reality of your sector rather than a generic playbook.

The leap

It is a career change, not just a promotion

The step from star team member to store or venue manager means you are suddenly accountable for other people's performance, rosters, and results, while still serving customers and covering shifts. The leap is learning to lead a team rather than just out-work it, so the floor runs well even when you are not on it.

That gap is exactly what coaching closes. Not with theory, but by working through the real situations you are facing, in language that makes sense for retail & hospitality.

What makes it hard here

The challenges specific to leading in retail & hospitality

These are not generic management problems. They are the pressures that come with leading people in this sector, and they are all learnable.

Leading a young, casual team

High turnover, casual hours, and team members who may be new to work all make leadership harder. Setting standards, training fast, and keeping people engaged is a real skill, not a given.

Managing while serving

You are leading the team and serving customers at the same time, often during the busiest, most stressful hours. Staying calm, clear, and in charge under that pressure has to be learned.

Holding standards without burning out

It is easy to either let standards slip or try to do everything yourself. Neither lasts. Coaching helps you build a team that holds the standard with you, so the role is sustainable.

Why it fits

A coach who understands operational, hands-on teams

Stefan leads in a major Australian retailer and understands the pace and people challenges of customer-facing operations. The coaching is practical and grounded in the reality of leading frontline teams: clear expectations, fast development, and the confidence to run a venue that does not depend on you being there every shift.

Stefan spent 7 years at adidas global HQ and today leads a supply chain team and a national distribution centre at a major Australian retailer. He is not coaching leadership from the sidelines, he is leading a large team through real pressure right now, which is why the coaching lands with people who do demanding, practical work.

Programs

Coaching built around where you are

There is no one-size-fits-all path into leadership, so there is no off-the-shelf program. Whether you are an individual stepping up, an organisation growing its next generation, or an owner with people to lead, every engagement is tailored to your real challenges and the growth you are working towards.

Who is coaching with Growth Korner for?

Mostly first-time and emerging leaders: people who have just stepped into managing others, or are about to. We also work with established managers, business owners with people responsibility, and organisations developing their next generation of leaders. If you are navigating the shift from doing the work to leading the people, you are in the right place.

What is the difference between coaching and mentoring?

Coaching is a thought-provoking partnership where you set goals, uncover insight, and create actions you own and are accountable for. Mentoring is an experienced guide sharing wisdom and direction from real experience. Stefan blends both, drawing on years of leadership at adidas HQ and his certification as a professional coach, so you get the right mix for your situation.

How are the sessions run, and how long are they?

One-on-one coaching and mentoring sessions run for around 60 minutes and are held in person in Adelaide or via video conference, whichever suits you. We meet on a regular cadence agreed up-front, working on the development areas you identify, such as communication and feedback, delegation, or handling difficult situations.

What does the free strategy call involve?

It is a relaxed 30 minute conversation, at no cost and no obligation. We talk through where you are, what is getting in the way, and what success would look like. If it is a fit, we map out a tailored program. If it is not, you still leave with clarity. Either way is fine.

Do you work with whole teams and organisations, not just individuals?

Yes. Alongside 1-on-1 coaching, Growth Korner offers team coaching, group facilitation, and themed workshops tailored to your organisation's goals. These are designed to lift self-awareness, improve communication, and strengthen leadership across your people, with content shaped to fit your business.

Is the coaching tailored, or a fixed program?

Every program is tailored to your individual and business needs. We start from your real challenges and goals, then build a strategic framework around them. There is no one-size-fits-all package, because the change you need is specific to you.

Where is Growth Korner based, and do you work remotely?

Growth Korner is based in Adelaide, South Australia, and works with leaders locally and right across the country. In-person sessions are available in Adelaide, and video conferencing means distance is never a barrier to getting started.
